Green Travel

Don't. That's right, you don't need to travel. Why not stay at home - it's good for you and everyone else, and it's the best place to be. Learn to love local, and cherish the place you live. Most travel is stressful and avoidable, causes global warming, and damages the places you visit.

The best way to travel is the oldest one, walking. This is good for your health and lets you see the world and think about things, and stop to look. Walking to school is great, and so is walking to the shops and the bus stop. If there is motorised traffic around, it should not be going more than 20 miles an hour where there are people.

Riding a bicycle can take you farther than walking and carry more shopping, and saves money. Cycling is safer the more cyclists there are on the roads, and special "cycle facilities" usually increase danger and interfere with daily bicycle use, often limiting it to special sites accessed only by car. Training can help you cycle confidently and effectively.

Car use in the twentieth century destroyed cities, towns, and public transport, while killing more than the wars did, and is now one of the biggest killers in the developing world. If someone offers to take you somewhere by car, ask why they do not stay at home or else use public transport, and stop bullying, intimidating and killing others. Like alcoholics, car users want others to take up their addiction, and live in denial of their harmful acts. If your parents drive you to school they very badly need help, and exercise. Why not have a family boycott on groups that create car journeys?

There is no reason to fly, unless you are a bird, bat or insect. This is the single worst form of transport in terms of global warming. So why don't religious leaders who say killing is wrong tell their followers to stay at home and boycott flying and companies involved in flying? If you see a charity or religion arranging events that involve or encourage flying, such as sponsored travel, why not tell them you cannot support them and their fundraisers. If your parents want you to fly, refuse. Explain to them that to grow up you need to learn to treat others the way you would like to be treated, and to take responsibity for what you do. You fly, they die.

And don't believe the selfish greenwash nonsense that says it is ok to travel and pollute if you plant a tree to cover it up. It takes a long time for a tree to grow and that will be too late. So instead of doing something bad and then planting a tree , do something good and then plant a tree. Go green.
